Fit Explorer

Train Like an Astronaut!

Developed in cooperation with NASA scientists and fitness professionals working directly with astronauts, the Fit Explorer project is a physical and inquiry-based approach to human health and fitness on Earth and in space. Students in grades 3-5 can participate in physical activities modeled after the real-life physical requirements of humans traveling in space.

The Fit Explorer Project encourages students to progress through physical activities modeled after the real-life requirements of humans traveling in space. Students will record their personal progress in their Mission Journals and earn points in the Fit Explorer Challenge, while working with their crew members to progress through levels.

In the Fit Explorer project, you can involve your students in structured, hands-on science activities that relate physical Earth-based needs to the requirements of exploring space and assist students in gaining additional understanding of the science behind nutrition and physical fitness.

NASA’s Fit Explorer project uses the excitement of exploration to challenge students to set physical fitness and research goals, practice physical fitness activities, and research proper nutrition, to enable each child to aspire to become our next generation of Fit Explorers!

Inspire the Next Generation of Fit Explorers!

With the Fit Explorer project, you can help train our next generation of space explorers to go to the moon, Mars, and beyond! This educational program created with the Office of the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports addresses the national, state and local needs for quality health/fitness education material in schools, to challenge students to be more physically active, and to teach how health and fitness plays an important in the role in human performance in space exploration.

The goals of the Fit Explorer project are

  • To increase the opportunity for students to be more physically active in and out of the classroom environment.
  • To increase awareness about the importance of life-long health and fitness.
  • To allow students to understand the relevance of being healthy and fit in pursuit of exploration.
  • To help students grasp NASA’s Vision for Space Exploration and the exciting future of long-duration space flight.
  • To inspire and motivate the next generation of explorers to pursue careers in the STEM fields.

Important! Students should have proper medical clearance on record before participating in any kind of physical activity program.
